Extractor question for encore
« on: December 01, 2004, 09:24:26 AM »
I got the primer extractor thats supposed to allow for breech plug removal without removing the fore end and installed it.
There wasn't a good explanation about how it worked but I'm assuming its supposed to swing out of the way ?
Trying to figure out if I did something wrong or not, looking at the original & the new one the new one has a rounded front, seems to be the main diff other than the little screw head at the right rear corner.
Can someone tell me if I did something wrong or how this is supposed to work ? :?

Thanks in advance

It just swivels out of the way. The screw I think is on the right hand side as you look at it in the gun. It swivels to the right out of the way.  :D

Just to add to RedHawks post!

The first time or two, it swivels kind of hard.
It will swivel either direction, but to remove the breech plug, you need to swivel it to the right!

I tried to get a new extractor when they first came out. Always out of stock.

I finally just removed the extractor and screw. Works just fine. Have to give the nipple a quick wipe after 6-8 rounds or use your fingernail. Other wise they just fall out. No extractor actually make it easier to insert a new primer.

Lots of people remove the extractor from their Encore Muzzle Loaders and really like it that way!
But, all it will take is one time for your primer to stick, to the point where you will need your knife to pry the primer out and you could see your deer going over the hill!

I took mine out and tried 4 or 5 primers (just the primer) and after the first one, the rest stuck and I had to pry them out!

So, I say "use the extractor"!  But if your works good without an extractor, so much the better!
