North Carolina Bear Hunting

Does anyone hunt black bear in North Carolina?If so what tacics do you use to hunt them.I have been seeing them were I hunt in the nountains and was thinking of giving bear hunting a try.I will be hunting for bear and hogs at the same time so which round should I use in my Browning 270 cal BAR?I was thinking of using the Winchester Fail Safe Ammo 140 grain bullet that si suppose to be for thick skined big game.I have 50 cal muzzleloader I could hunt with to.And I also have a 30-30.What do you all think?Thanks PS This my first time to the Bear hunting forum.

Rowland, if limited to those choices, I would pick the 270 with the heaviest premium bullet I could find.   IF you're limited to what is available, try to find some Winchester 150gr Power Points in .270 Win...   Black Bear are dangerous game and can put a hurtin' on you if you make a mistake...

They deserve your respect and IMHO, you need to make that first shot break both shoulders if possible.   IF you're not sure of a bear's anatomy, study it some and maybe go by a ZOO and look over the bears if you never seen one in person and close up...  Print out some illustrations and take them with you to the ZOO to study and compare to the bears you're watching.

Shot placement is critical and perfect shots can anchor a big bear with a single bullet if you get the right angle on the animal.  Often, a shoulder shot will sever the arteries coming out of the top of the hear that go to the brain - that bear is NOT long for this world!

ive seen em and would have shot one if seen while deer huntin only been huntin for em one time we just walked thru the woods and used predator calls no luck but have seen em while trout fishing and checking traps.

I saw your posting on wanting to Bear Hunt.
I have just recently moved here and I am looking to Bear Hunt as well.
Any suggestions on where I might look to hunt?
