Fellows the reason I keep trying to push H&R for the .35 Whelen over others is that it is a tried and true cartridge. Also it is one they have produced before there fore the research and development have already been done. All they have to do is make the barrels. Simple enough. It also fills a niche between the 30-06 and the 45-70. Bigger bullet than the 06, and better range than the 45-70. Plus for plinking, or varmits, it is one of the easiest to reload and shoot. You can use the same .357 bullets you use for a .38, and down load to where there is virtually no recoil, so it's great for kids to learn to shoot with. Then as they get older increase the bullet weight, and powder, to match a .357 Mag. Close range deer gun, great from a stand, and good for varmits. Then when they are big enough, full loads with heavy bullets. It's one gun fully capable of taking anything in North America. Plus I want another one that I can have other high pressure barrels fitted to. Mine is too old, they won't fit anything but low pressure barrels for it.
