2005 Could Be NY's Safest Hunting Season on Record
« on: January 18, 2006, 06:26:52 AM »
Check out the link from the NY Outdoor News website...Seems like hunters are more careful than ever.  Of course there are fewer of us out there to actually have accidents so that may skew the numbers a bit...I guess all the accidents that were predicted with allowing rifles in some counties never came to fruition.  Oh well, what will those people complain about next?

2005 stats - 4 fatalities, and 28 injuries.  All incidences could have been prevented, if the hunter (read: shooter) just used a little common sense!  They ran the gammut of Spring Turkey Hunter shooting another hunter (mistaken for game).  Self inflicted (both bow and gun incidences).  Loaded gun discharges while loading deer into vehicle.  Just plain stupid mistakes  resulted in the injury and/or fatality of another.

Congratulations to all the hunters, who hunted last year safely!  Joe
