Handgunning for Nilgai?

I have heard that blue bull or Nilgai are some of the toughest animals to put down in the Lone Star State.

I was wondering if a TC 45-70 would be up to the task? I"m not saying I would hunt them but I am curious about that issue.

In addition, how difficult are they to hunt?

My bro-n-law had begun to look into a bow hunt for hose big antelope, and all I kept reading was about how hard they were to put down.  I've never hunted them, yet, so I can't answer your question.    You might post the same question on the TC handgun forum though.  I bet you will get some answers there quickly.

It will do fine IF you get close enough and put the bullet in the right spot. From what I hear they are a bit difficult to get to stay still long enough to shoot and not so easy to approach. Best I recall it was MS Hitman that said he had used a .454 Casull on them and certainly the .45-70 is equal to that from a TC.

oct-02,i went hunting for them in bandera tx,with a 475linebaugh w/425 cpwfngc handloads@1280 fps,shot one at 62 yrds w/fa83 475,the bull ran about 70 yards then fell over dead,shot thru lungs clipped top of heart.the 45-70 should do fine with the right bullet medium high to high velocity if you handload,1280 with the 475 is med high i could have gone to 1400fps,how difficult depends on were you hunt it how big property whether they were just planted etc....they can be very weary, king ranch and other places
