Adoption...
« on: January 27, 2003, 07:54:56 AM »
This is always an interesting subject for me, and an emotional one as well... I was adopted at birth, and when I was around 30 years old, my mother (adoptive) gave me a sealed envelope containing paperwork relating to my adoption... I sat on that envelope for a couple of years before I worked up the nerve to open it. When I finally did, I found the name of my "birth mother" and evidence that she lived just 30 miles from me... I got the appropriate phone book and found three people with that last name... On my second phone call, I found my oldest brother, who, at that time, I didn't even know about. Turned out I had two brothers and a sister just thirty miles away all that time that I didn't even know about. We got some handwriting samples (I had my birth mothers handwriting on the adoption paperwork) together, compared other notes and discovered one another... Since that time, sis has passed away, but at that time, I found a whole new family. To this day, since I was raised an only child, it still sounds strange to me when my wife says something like, "your brother called today", or something similar...
I want to finish well
I want to end this race

Ironknees,

Thank you for sharing your story.  I am glad everything worked out for you. There are some adopted children that don't want to know about their birth parents. I have a first cousin that is adopted and he doesn't want to know anything about his.
