What Is The Wildest Customized H+R/NEF On This Forum?

I'm just a little curious about all the personalized and customized H+R/NEF rifles here. Not to mention getting some great ideas.  :lol:  
I wish I had a Digital camera worth it's salt, I'd post a picture rather than just explain mine.  
My BC has a chopped 27" barrel, the steel (ouch) butt plate removed, the stock was cut straight to install a Hi-Viz recoil pad, the stock was stripped, and hand rubbed tung oil gloss finish applied, it also has a Leupold 2.5-8 Vari-X 1 scope, and the trigger work was done, ala Perklo.
Now how 'bout tellin' me about yours?

not a handi but here is my customized rossi. i just sold this one to a good friend and ordered me a stainless one to customize.

I thinned the stock and forend, reshaped the pistol grip and shortened the forend. i had the barrel cut the 16.5" remington 700 rifle sights installed, and in the one pic it wears a bushnell 1.5x4.5x32 shotgun scope in weaver  iron sighters and weaver base. I used the iron sighters so i could use the irons for close and the scope for farther away. Also fitted a butt plate and removed the recoilpad (mistake). I sold it it to a buddy and watch him shoot it and after about 6 rounds your ready to head home :)

My vote at this time would be for Deadeye47's custom BC "FrankenClassic" at the top for wildest...or the 307 Winch with survivor stock and ported muzzle at the bottom...

      I have a BC and thought about doing what you did to your's. Then I got thinking, just sell it and get a regular HANDI in 45-70. I don't know??
     Are you sorry you did it?? My BC is a nice looking gun. I guess they all are tho!!   Any comment's??  Thank's. :?  :?

Sorry? Not in the least. Once I decided that I'd never want to sell it, the decision to really make it mine, was easy. It's just a matter of ending up with something that you really want, and plan on keeping. I have to admit that I wouldn't consider doing this to a Sako, but the cost of replacing anything on these rifles, is negligible by comparison. If I screwed up the barrel, I could be out $100, or the cost of a smith to repair any mistake. The stock can be had cheap enough, heck the whole rifle can be gotten at Wally World for $285. As for the 45/70 Handi, the BC stock is much nicer, especially with the oil finish, and the difference in the length of the barrel has to add a few FPS, while with 27", it's giving me the balance I wanted. Now it's short enough to easily swing around in the thick stuff. I can't think of another, single shot, bolt, or lever action in 45/70 that I would rather have. I sold my Marlin Guide Gun after buying the BC. Heck, I have a brand new Weatherby in .300 WSM that I could have taken hunting, but it was this BC that came with me. Now if your thinking that maybe I like this rifle, darn right I do!

You wouldn't happen to be able to furnish any particulars on Deadeye47's creations, would you? They do indeed look wild! That Survivor's barrel almost looks like the Volquartson(sp.?) ported barrel for the Ruger 10/22.

My pick would be two bellies's 50-90.You have to be a man to put that thing up to your shoulder,and he did alot of custom work to it.

Well two bellies gets my vote too...what a beautiful rifle! Thanks for posting my pic's again Quick..you have some nice specimins also....nothing really custom about any except the bottom Survivor stocked one. It was originally a 308 with shell sticking problems ...tried everything...sent it off to David White and he cut a rim recess in the chamber and I now use 307Winchester brass. (identical rounds exceept for the rim) He also shortened the barrel to 14 inches and put one of his permanently attached brakes on it also and double step crown on the thing too....I have to be careful at the range as I will be an instant enemy to shooters at right and left  shooting stations of me.....the brake works well but you want to be by yourself when ya shoot it...the other one is the top 45-70...nothing really custom on it except the 'weird" stock parts I put together...thats what makes it unique I guess...shoots nice too....recently put together some Smoky (Pyrodex) cartriges and it shot really well in it.... :mrgreen:

      Thank's for the reply. You make a lot of sense!! I had mine out this A.M. deer hunting and the 32" bbl. plus the weight is a pain. I love the caliber but the BC just isn't practical for hunting. There's really no reason for me not to do what you did as I removed the William's sight's and put a scope on it.

John,
I started off just cutting 2" off the barrel, I still felt it was too barrel heavy, so I took off two more, well it was a lot better but not quite right so I thought I'd take it an inch at a time until I got it right, well the first inch off did the trick. I remember when I used to help my Dad with woodwork, he told me you can always cut more off, but not less. Take it slow until it feels right for you. You can have a smith put an 11 degree crown on it, if you can cut it straight enough, or you can use a Dremel cut off wheel to smooth the muzzle flat. If you use the Dremel, just hold the cut off wheel flat against the muzzle, with it centered in the bore, and grind it down until it's smooth. Just go slow so as not to heat the barrel up too much. I was going to go the smith route, but once I got the muzzle smooth, I had to try shooting it before taking it to a smith. It shot great as is so I didn't want to mess with success. My local smith only wanted $35 for the crowning.

    What did you use to cut your bbl?? Hack saw, band saw,????
    I'll probably go to local smith. Hate to do that as I've had some gunsmith training. I don't  have a lathe or bandsaw tho.

I clamped the barrel in a miter box, and used a fine tooth hacksaw. Slow going, but it works. The smith wouldn't charge much for it, but I wanted to play with the length, and knew I'd tick him off with indecision.
