How much do you want to spend and what are you going to do with it? For hunting deer, a good 3-9x40 will do just fine. The Burris FFII is on sale at Natchez for $170, You can get the Leupold VX-1 for $200 at the Optics Zone, or a Bushnell 3200 for about $170. If you really want to save money, the Simmons ATV 4.5-14x40AO is on closeout at Natchez for $79.

Just went through this myself while re-scoping my 270.  I decided on the Burris Fulfield II because it seemed so clear and bright.  If your looking for some discussion, try this:

Hope this helps,

I have a Simmons 44 Mag 3-10x44 on my .270 Handi.  I thinks its a decent scope.  Its clear through the zoom range and the 44mm objective makes for a bright picture.  I haven't subjected it to more than 200 rounds, so I can't speak to it's ability to take recoil yet.  All in all, I'm happy with it.  I'm about to mount a Simmons ATV 4.5-14x40 on my .204 Handi on some recommendations from this awesome forum.  As mentioned above, its on sale, and should hold up fine mounted on a .270.

good luck,

cricman

I have the Simmons 44 mag on two of my rifles. 30-06 and .270 and have been very pleased with both of them. SWFA (riflescopes.com) has them for around $100 plus shipping. Have got both of mine from them in under one week. Good scope for the $.

I have to agree on the burris fullfield II,it is a great scope. If you can't afford that, i think a Simmons would do just fine. The Simmons I put on my .357 is only a 4x ,but the adjustment turrets have a very nice positive detent. I only paid 30 bucks for the scope.I will see how it holds up.

I dont know what you want to spend, but there is a guy on ebay selling weaver's grand slam scopes for very good prices. I picked up a 6x20 from him for 210+shipping. He has both the duplex and the "very fine crosshair w/ dot", be carefull on what you bid on its hard to tell by his descriptions. I am very pleased w/ this scope, very clear and bright. Good luck!

My 30-06 wears a Burris fulfield 3-9x40
this scope gathers light better than any scope ive ever owned...great in low light conditions.
Its the best ive owned...but also the most expensive.
I guess when it comes to optics you (more or less) get what you pay for.

I think the burris will run about $200-$250
my next choice would be Bushnell in there trophy series they are a great scope for the $......At around $100.

I have had some really bad luck out of Tasco, Simmons, and BSA but have never used the (top of the line)......If i were going to put one of them on a heavy recoil rifle.......then i would go with there top end.

You can get several good scopes at decent prices that will hold up well to a 270...you need to deceide what your looking for in a scope and the price range your wanting to spend...the $200 price range is the going rate for some good quality glass...Leupold,Burris,and Swift...would be my choices for that amount...and there are a few places that are selling them cheaper than $200.00....my personal choice for the money...Leupold...as has been stated ...you can get a great VX-1 for that amount...and to my tired old eyes ives the best veiw thru it...I'v had just about all makes and models at one time or another...and I keep going back to the Leupolds...I have a like new  $500.00...VX-3 that I'm trading in on 2 VX-1's tommorrow...they are that good...the Burris fullfeilds are rated exceptionaly good too...and I've seen several places offering a 20X spoting scope when you buy a 3x9x40 from them...so if your needing one of those...it might be an option for you...all in all...there plenty to choose from...and I'm sure you've heard it before...but ...I'll say it again...buy the best scope you can afford...it will pay for it in the end...

I considered all the aforementioned scopes as candiddates for my new 7x64 Handi and here's the one I decided on.

http://www.eabco.com/Swift658.html

The Premier Swifts are supposed to be some of the finest on the market, this will be my first tho so no first hand experience here. The 3-9x40 Premier is the same price and may be the next one I get if I like this one as much as I think i will. Nice price on this one is really the selling point and they have the lifetime warranty also. Again any of the previously mentioned scopes would work fine also. Burris is great and for a little more than the Swift would be a good one to have. For a little more than the Burris then the Leupold would be my choice, but I have to get what I can afford and I believe that the Swift Premiers will be my choice for a while to come.
