found one today in great shape, walnut stock, guy wants $160 for it.are these guns accurate???which ammo do they like win.cci????is this a good buy......it is tube fed. bolt action rifle.thanks for all replies!!!!!!!

Moose, I just read your post so I'm a little late but if everything works and the bore's nice with no bulges it should be fine, they go for about $100 more new in my neighborhood.

ok i bought it yesterday, nice good looking gun, put 12 rounds in it and shot it , shot great !!!!!!!!!!!!today i will mount an older 3 x 9 x 40 tasco scope on it , with the lepould mounts........thought it would be my new "truck gun", :grin: for coyotes and wild pigs @ 100 yds or less and i think dillia's would hate having a 22 mag though the hard shell....don't you think :-D

you really can't go wrong with a marlin bolt action, especially for the use you've got in mind.
22 mag won't be the tackdriver that the 17hmr is, but if lyou pick your ammo good--try Win. Premier and the Remington top-shelf stuff--you'll be able to hit a dilla in the head at 50 and through the engine room at 100.

You might like a bit of trigger work, but plenty on that here and on rimfire central.

And the 883 is one of the few Marlin bolt actions left that can be had with a walnut stock. Would not surprise me if the walnut stock is eventually eliminated from the entire Marlin rimfire line with the exception of the 39 lever action.

I think you did well - the last 883 I saw at a gun show a few years back was in the $225-$230 range. Plus yours was even cheaper than the $169 22 mag rifles sold by Wal Mart with the hardwood stock. I used to own the 783 which preceded the 883 and it was a really good shooting rifle. Sounds like yours is a winner too!
