Several new rounds have been introduced over the last few years, many of which have me scratching my head and wondering "why?", and this is yet another one.
The 454 Casull already has a stranglehold on the high powered 45cal revolver market, and if you want a faster 45cal, you can even get a 45/70 or 450 Marlin revolver. The 460 S&W seems to be trying to fit into a niche that I personally don't think exists. The only revolvers that I'm aware of that are capable of handling it are the S&W X-frame and the BFR, so revolver companies will have to design a new pistol from the ground up, and I'm not sure they'll do it when they already have the 454 Casull in their line-up. Unless there's enough sales from S&W, Magnum Research (assuming they'll chamber it) and the various Encore barrel makers, I don't see it taking off.
Of course I didn't think the 300WSM would do well either since it's a ballistic twin of the 300 Win mag, but I was wrong there and could very well be wrong about the 460 S&W.
