Pardner vs Topper
« on: December 07, 2004, 03:29:28 AM »
I am a long time shooter (rifle & pistol) but a shotgun newbie. I have purchased an old pump action 12 gauge that I like a lot, but have recently become interested in H&R/NEF single-shot shotguns. I am attracted by their simplicity and price and was ready to buy the Pardner 12 Gauge with the 32" barrel when I thought that a bit more research would be helpful.

Here's my question (s): What is the difference between the Pardner and the Topper. Is either of them appropriate for shooting Trap. With regard to recoil; will the felt recoil be significantly reduced by adding weight and a slip-on recoil pad.

My main interest is Cowboy Shooting, but I am currently interested in shooting Trap. I know that a single-shot shotgun is a handicap in Cowboy Shooting so I have purchased a Stoeger SxS to use there; but I find that I am far less accurate when using the SxS for Trap. My interest in Trap shooting is not great enough to justify spending thousands on a speciality gun however. The pump gun is fine, but I still have an interest in a single-shot. Any comments on the Pardner vs the Topper and the use of them for Trap shooting.

Thanks in advance, John

the topper deluxe classic would be the best gun for trap. has a ventilated rib and screw in choke tubes.

jrdudas, for what it's worth, Gun South ,Wal-Marts' gun distributor, shows the Topper Deluxe Classic in stock. Wholesale price is, $205.20. Wal-Mart sells them cheaper though.

I am also considering a classic just for trap and retiring the Benelli to the field. Never was any good at trap, maybe a new gun will help :)

I would say the topper deluxe classic would be my choice. A lot of folks get a kick out of using a bare bones $89.00 pardner. I want a tdc when I get the extra $.

I'd much rather be remembered for being a great shot than having the most expensive gun
