GB makes a valid point. I once saw a black bear hunt over bait where the guide had the clients place their clothes in the bait storage shed overnight.
UGH!!! The clients smelled to high heaven but the bears were used to the bait/human mix and did not mind one bit. I don't know if I want to smell like bait if grizz hunting!
My plan to to use my portable treestand near a thick set of spruce. I will set the stand back in from the edge in a spruce about 5-10 yards with three shooting lanes, one center of the bait and one on either side. For bait I will either burn honey or use the insence sticks that Cabelas has.
Another option if I can do it is a automatic barrel feeder. Some of the guys over here use them with good sucess. Other guys dig a hole and pour the bait in the hole. Some use drums with small holes so the bear has to continually turn the barrel to get the food out of the hole.
The place I picked out is also a funnel. A narrow crossing along a deep ravine that runs up to a mountain. It is one of only 2 places to cross the ravine on the whole mountain side.
