How does the 445 mag compare to a 444 marlin? From what ive heard it's basically a cut down 444 marlin case right? do you load with .44 mag slugs or 444 marlin slugs? any info on this cartridge would be great

According to my reloading manuel, the 445 lowest load is the max load for a 44 mag. and it goes to the 444 starting load. The advantage of the 445 is that you can still shoot 44 mag and 44 specials in it. The Sierra book on handguns show 1850 fps for the 300 gr. and 2150 fps.for the 240 gr. and thats in a 14" barrel. It should be a perfect starting gun for the youngster with 44 mag. and later on the 445 super mag. Digger

. is 1850 the "hottest" load for the 300 grn.? thanks in advanced

Yep1850 fps. is the max load for the 300gr. one,but thats in a 14" barrel. I think 1950 to 2000 fps in a rifle barrel. Also the only powder that gets that high is 680. Digger

yes i have the reamer and 2 445 s. m. my 20 in barrel sends a 210 gr bullrt1970 fps...cant find my book with 44 mag speeds :evil: there is not really a 444 marlin bullet just 429...dia...the 445 is better than the 444because of recoil....you dont gain that much out of the 444 case <speed wise>because the 444 uses a slower powder. i can say this..445 is the only gun that kills deer faster than any others...only had 1 deer move from where they were shot , it only went 25 yds :-D i hunted with the 357 max four years but it will not take a big deer down 100% of the time so far tha 445 has .....i use imr 4227 powder, the barrel liked 200 gr. bullets,there are faster loads than mine so dont let my slow loads fool you....i shot a 444 marlin on a h&r action ONCE well maybe twice it does kick..just my 2 cents worth...JB

thanks. what is the max speed you can get from a 300 grainer. do you know? what is the heaviest bullet you can get for the 445?

I got my manuel out and it shows 39.6 grs. of 680 sends a 210 gr. at 2200 with2360 pds. of energy.The 240 gr. was 2050fps. with37.3 grs. of 680. These are max loads in a 14" contender. The 180 gr. max load is 2350fps,this load should be a real hummer. Digger
