Need H110 load for .357 mag.

I've searched the net a bit and have had little luck finding an H110 load for the 155gr. LSWC.  If anybody can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

110 does not work well with lead bullets, they don't drive hard enough to make the power burn correctly. I'm not saying you can't use it , there are a lot of powers that will work much better with lead. Good Luck

I've burned a lot of H110 in my 44 mag and 454 Casull behind gas checked cast bullets and it worked just fine.

Dusty,
H110/296 needs to be loaded up to work well. If you are using a plain base SWC you may get quite a bit of leading when you reach a good load unless they are cast really hard. (18+bnh with good lube) What you will find with a lighter load of this powder is an impressive muzzle flash and quite a bit of unburnt powder with poor accuracy. A better candidate would be 2400, AA#7, Longshot, Unique, SR4756 ect. If you are using a GC bullet H110 works great. Check with Steves pages, Im sure you'll find something there.

And "2400" has some decent velocity lead loads.

recently I have read about Lil Gun  being used with 158 and up cast bullets.
loads were 13grains for 1500 fps.

I have NOT tried it.....but I have some rounds loaded and waiting to be tested.

Yeah, I'll vouch for the 13 grains of Lil'Gun and a 158 grain cast bullet.

That 1500 fps is from a 24" lever action barrel though.  At 40 meters it groups around an inch, give or take 0.25" depending on the day I'm having.  

From my 6.5" Blackhawk the same load performs decently.  At 25 yards I get 4 or 5 in 1.5" and one or two fliers, but I seem to see those fliers no matter what I'm shooting from that revolver.  I'm sure I've chronographed these from the revolver but I have no recollection of the velocity.  I'm sure it was at least supersonic.  

Those are center-to-center groups BTW, and shot often enough to have confidence in them.

Oh, and I do get unburnt powder when fired from the revolver.  Don't see it with the rifle though.  I'm not one to fret over a few grains of lost powder.

I'll warn you that 13 grains is well below the 90% max for a magnum powder, however it's greater than 50% so it's not in the realm of squib loads.  I did speak with Hodgdon techs about Lil'Gun and they did not recommend it for cast bullets, but didn't shudder in horror when I told them I was getting good results from 13 grains and a 158 cast bullet.  The guy saw no problems with my useage.

I've loaded the Lasercast 180grn plain base bullets in my GP100 6" Ruger at max with H110, 2400, AA#9, and LilGun and they worked great. The most accurate load and the highest velocity was with LilGun. About the best accuracy that I've had with this revolver at 50yds. These True Shot bullets worked so well in my gun that I bought a Lyman 170grn mould and cast up a batch. These are plain base and I used a hard alloy but haven't had a chance to try them yet. About all I shoot in this old .357 is lead bullets anymore. My old gun doesn't lead up at all, or not much. I think I was using 15.0grns of the LG with these bullets. The bullets that I cast turned out at 165grns and I loaded a few with 18.0grns.

I have good results using regular primers with LilGun in my .357 and .44mag.

OK, I screwed up.  I'm using a gas checked bullet, shudda sed that right up front. I'd REALLY like to keep my powder shelf uncluttered (geeze, who the hell wants a DOZEN different  handgun powders laying around?).  If this can't be done then I'm going to have to add another powder to my supply.  Such is life at the loading bench, I guess.

EUREKA!!  I looked in the Lyman's 48th Reloading manual and it lists loads for the 155gr. linotypes for both H110 (15.0 to 15.7 grains) and AA9 (13.0 to 14.5 grains), I've got both powders.  With my #2 alloy bullets the starting loads will be safe.

Dang nabbit, now were gonna have to give you a whuppin for lyun to us!!!! or at least rub yer head a bit. If your using checks just load em up like jacketed or until they hurt :) then back em off a bit...
