on the old format jack had listed the parts needed to make a call using a walkman.the radio shack parts

these # are still good but part#4001239 power horn is not and they have no relpacement. I found one like it at

I had a lot of trouble finding it hope this saves others some time

I hate to sound like an advertisement but don't forget to look on internet auction sites for parts. I picked up a name brand 12w 8ohm speaker for 6.99 ($10.00 after shipping) and a 25w for 12.99 ($15.50 after shipping) I'm building up one of the above E-callers to get started with. A couple of guys at work have already expressed an interest in this project. I may have to build more than one depending on how mine turns out.

What is the volume like for this little amp? Can you use the built in speaker or do you have to use it to power a bigger speaker? Will it be louder than a mouth blown call? I call in some mountains here in california where I am not getting out far enough with my mouth calls. Was wondering if this would work.

hrnhrn you need to use a external speaker should be as loud as ya need depending on how good the speaker. good luck let me know how you make out.

I just finished my home made caller project this evening. I soldered the wires to the speaker ( a speco, 12 watt, 8ohm, 5" diameter horn ) and hooked it up to my Koss walkman style tape player, plugged in the mini amp speaker and let 'er rip... First thought as I pushed the volume dial on the external amp was " Oh He**!! How loud will this thing get?? I couldn't believe it, a little 12 watt speaker and that little amp had the whole house wailing. I can't wait to get this thing out in the field and see how it does. I built this thing on a shoe string budget also. I've been wanting an E-caller for awhile but I've been too tight to come off the money to buy one for myself. Here's a breakdown of what I've got in it so far...

11.99 Pocket Speaker/Amp
8.99 12watt Speaker
2.99 miniplug cable-stripped end
2.99 miniplug cable with 1/8 plugs
2.99 additional miniplug cable- stripped end

* I "acquired" an "extra" 25 watt weather proof external speaker from the fire station at work= no charge.
* Koss water resistant walkman tape player= no charge, found it left behind as unclaimed property in a rented storage building.
* Koss portable CD player= no charge, received it as a gift 6 years ago
* Camo tote bag to hold the entire outfit= no charge, received it a complementary gift for subscribing to Outdoor Life

So for $30.00, give or take some change I've got a home built E- caller. I can't wait to try this thing out. I'll hook up the 25 watt speaker tomorrow and see how it's gonna do; then I'm gonna hit the sporting goods store and pick up some tapes and CD's and give it a field test. I'll keep ya'll posted on how it does......
