I have a 1895 and was thinking of installing a set of xs systems ghost rings
on it. I would like to know more about them.

I put a set of XS sights on my stainless guide gun. They went on very easily. They are very quick to aquire, and easy to sight in. I have been amazed at how easily I adjusted to the ghost ring sights. I can fairly easily keep my shots in 2" groups at 100 yards. I use my ghost ring sights zeroed at 100 yards and my scout scope at 150. This puts me good on animals out to 200 yards with the scope and 150 with the ghost ring sights. I went with the ghost ring with the protective ears over the regular XS ghost ring because it looked more durable. Wild West Guns also makes a very nice ghost ring sight that they use with a fiber optic front sight. I liked the XS sites a little better than the WWG.

I can see there's some obvious physical differences; but (having used or seen, in-the-flesh, neither one), what's the difference between an aperture/peep sight and a ghost ring? Just asking out of ignorance.

THe ghost ring has a much larger diameter whole to look thru than a standard peep sight.

PeterF these term broad and tend to be generalized as we use them today but my understanding is like this. Aperature sight is as the name inplies an enclosed opening as opposed to an open one. So all peep sights are aperature sights. When the provided target disc(small aperature) is removed the opening is said to be the ghost ring. Test that I have read reveal that it is generally no more accurate than open sights (be that good or bad) but far faster to aquire a sight picture with. POW

I have found peep sights to be easily more accurate than regular open sights and either version of peep sights faster on target.

rickt300 have you found the ghost ring to be more accurate than open sights? POW
