New Holster Care

I picked up a new good quality crossdraw holster at a gun show recently.
It has stitching along the bottom side. The whole thing is folded back into the template that would rest on the hip. This template has three leather crossmembers to support most of the weight. Folding the whole thing back created the belt loop as you already know.
What do you guys use for care & conditioning?

I would just keep it clean and use Neatsfoot oil now and then to keep it conditioned.

I have been told, and seen first hand evidence, that oils or fats should not be used as a preservative for leather.  I've always used wax as a finish on new and old leather goods.  Any of the transparent or neutral shoe polishes will protect and preserve leather without loading it up and weighing it down with fatty acids that will eventually destroy it.  My 2 cents worth.

When I picked up my new Vaquero yesterday the clerk was putting some silicone treatment inside another guy's holster to make the gun slide out easier, so I picked up a bottle.  Is this a wise idea or will that stuff break down the leather?
