Did anyone here use Winchester 210 grain silvertips in a 44 mag for hunting? How did it do? Would you reccomend them?

I do not, but would ask what do you hunt?

Just a few years ago it was Dick Metcalf, I believe, who said his go-anywhere whitetail load -- when he might run into a 'junior' or he might be up against a monster -- was a 210 gr' jhp by Remington.     In my loadings they've generally worked well as far as accuracy.    I've never taken a deer with one, however.

Good luck,

I used them once, 60yd shot at a monster buck. Blood trailed for a while but did not recover. Found a vine in my shooting lane that had been nicked therefore can't get a true acounting of its performance. But after that I stayed with the 240grainers and wanted to try heavier bullets. No real evidence to go on I know, but am just spooked concerning the 210"s.
180's too.

Should work. But me I don't go lighter than 240 every since I had a 180 fail to exit. Never found a 240 in one yet and I've killed a slew of them with 240s.

I've taken 5 whitetail with 200gr xtp's. Only 1 required a 2nd shot to finish him off (spine shot). All the others went right down where they stood. The range was 40 to 60 yards.

I have used 200 grain XTP's and 200 gain Nosler semi jacketed hollow points on deer out of my 6" S&W 629 and out of my .50 T/C Renegade for around 20 years, killing at least one or two per season with one or the other. Both weapons deliver about the same muzzle velocity.
I like the 200 grain .44's better than the 180's or the 240's. I think the 180 would be a better bullet for lung shots only and the 240 or even 300's would be better for shoulder, spine, or quartering shots. However I have had 240's that went straight thru on lung shots with little expansion and I have had 180's fail to make an exit wound on shoulder shots. On the other hand the 200 grain .44's seem to be a good compromise between the two, good expansion on lung shots and I can still break a shoulder or a spine if I need to and still get an exit wound.

YMMV

I have used nothing but the 240 gr. Both hps and swcs. Have taken several whitetails with them . I shoot a m29 smith with 7.5 inch barrel.

My favorite deer bullet is the Serria 240 grn. JHC. I not only load my ammo but also load for afew friends that hunt with handguns and my reloads have taken alot of deer. I like the Serrias because they give me the best combination of accuracy and terminal preformance. Rem. bullets are excellant on terminal preformance but lack alittle in accuracy. Hornady have excellant accuracy, but lack on terminal preformance. The only .44 bullet that I ever recovered from a deer was from a 10 point buck shot in the left hind quater at 135 yrds. I recovered it just under the skin of the right frount shoulder and it had a perfiect mushroon. I tried 180 grn. bullets once and the frist bullet failed. I had an interence hole of about 2 1/2 in. and the bullet was broke up so bad I could only find small pieces. I load max. loads of Win.-296, a 240 grn. Serria bullet and win. LP primers and this load seem to shoot real well in all guns that I`ve tried it in.

I think it is a tad too light. I'll tell you why. A number of years ago I shot a nice fork horn in Connecticut with my 45-70 TC Carbine. I noticed while skinning and butchering the deer a sort of funny looking pimple was on the meat over the shoulder blade.

As I was butchering, I discovered a 210 grain 44 caliber Silver Tip. It broke through one side of the thin shoulder bone. Had it more steam or strength, it would have made it to the chest cavity.

I know that one instance doesn't make a sound arguement for or against, but it sort of made me think about what I use for bullets. I'd go with at least a 240 grain.
