I saw this funky looking Handi at the gunshow this past weekend. It had been assembled onone of the old case-hardened shotgun frames, with a dark wood stock with a stag-style texture on the pistol grip and forearm. Lying on the table next to it were its factory 12-gauge barrel, and two stainless steel barrels, a 357 and a 45-70, both with Marlin proofs on the barrel! They appeared to be homemade jobs, with barrel studs and ejector lug/housing welded on. It was interesting enough...but I wasn't sure it was safe to shoot. Has anyone here heard of Marlin levergun barrels being converted to work on a Handi? Now I wish I had brought my camera...

I was thinking of doing this myself with a 41 mag barrel but not sure of how cost prohibitive it will be, now marlin makes a 41magi again but I would prefer a straight stock carbine. Interesting to know if anyone out there has done this :grin:

I've done something like this 4 times for my NEF's. If you sleeve the barrel into an existing shotgun/rifle barrel and weld it, it works just fine for the lower pressure rounds.
Now I have a .45-90 32" octagon, a .32-20 22" round, a .40-65 30" and a .50-70 30"
All with sleeved construction. Gun Parts Corp is a good source for barrel blanks.

Do you 12,20, or 28 ga for the sleve, I guess it would depend on the barrel OD, how much of the shotgun barrel do you keep, all, half or just pst the lug? :?

I use the 12 ga barrel, although most are the same O/D; depends on your blank diameter. On two of the bbls I cut 'em off in front of the forearm lug, on the octagons, in front of the locking lug where the barrel taper just starts to straighten out.
