Engraving on rec'r face...??

I had the pleasure of taking my 223rem UV to the range. This type of rifle and load are new to me, but I think it's going to work out. Fired ard 60 rds. No misfires and no FTE; action popped open three or four times. I had to start on the 50yd range....remington 55grfmj was not to consistant out of this new barrel. Winchester 55grfmj [Isreali] was much better, in fact, had a couple of 5 shot groups covered by a quarter. I moved over to the hundred yard range and was surprised to see poi was 8 inches higher than the 50yd poi!? Crosswind was picking up [7-10mph] and the best grouping was ard 2 inches with Win 45grjhp, which is probably not to wind resistant. Blackhills 40grnosler not too good, either. By now I think this new barrel is fouled pretty good....looks like fine copper lines just in side the muzzle in the groove/land juncture.

Observations???
...8 inches higher at 100yds than 50yds was surprising.
...I may hand lapp this barrel just to speed break in. When cleaning the rod and patch seems to be stop and go down the barrel, not really a smooth one piece motion, also seems tight ahead of the throat for five inches.
...The receiver face is getting a 2 line Engraving below the firing pin by the ejector no doubt...SHOULD I relieve the back of the ejector to minimize this engraving or is this normal on this rifles?

The ejector is spring loaded. You should not shorten it. Take it out and put a radius on the bottom of the ejector and polish with #600 sand paper. The bottom edge is what's doing the scratching, also polish the scratch a bit. While you got the ejector out stone all the sliding surfaces.

...TM7, H&R's/NEF's are made in Gardner, Mass. They'd probably prefer if you drove to Conneticut to complain, they most likely would not hear you from there....:shock:....<><.... :grin:

TM7, I have a feeling you got a good one there and it's going to shoot great. Tweaking yes, perhaps a little, after all, thats half the fun...(OK 1/4 the fun)....<><.... :grin:

I am surprised that you would suggest to send the rifle back to the factory to remove some rough edges from the ejector. $$$$$$ wasted on freight and endless waiting for nothing.

Gun pops open? Well. maybe for some a trip to the factory may be justified. :D  :D

To others.
It is well known how to simply turn an ejector into an extractor. No need to  to make a decision  of caliber and date of manufacture just on that account. Besides I am sure you can buy an extractor for a few pennies if you want one.

I say it again, if you own a Handi rifle you better get handy with a few simple tools, ha? Or perhaps you have several spare ones for rotation from home to the factory.  :lol:  :lol:

I think we all should take some time for a few real good jokes or spin some good yarn. How about it, guys? Just have a head line for jokes, but only clean ones, eh.  We would need to set down a few simple rules.

What??? Where'd ya get that notion? The repair address? That's just to show where the company is, not a suggestion to send it. :wink:
