Light loads for the 454 Casull

Looking for loads using Casull brass, not 45 Colt. What's your favorite target load and how is it for groups at 50 yards.  I know every gun's gonna like something different, but what works for you?  Thanks ~~ Raynor

The 454 Casull is not a "light load" kind of cartridge!

How light are you talking? I bought some WW 260g hunting loads just to try and they'r what I would consider light or less than full 454. They run around 1300.  Should be able to load a 250 g bullet to around 1200 or so but accuracy might suck.

In another forum I was given Freedom Arms link and there are plenty of good looking loads listed there.  Looks like exactly what I wanted.

one of my favorites is 12 grains unique with a 300 grain bullet.  downright tame to shoot.   accuracy is just fine.

raynor, I also like a light load for target shooting with my .454 barrel on my Encore and yes, the .454 makes for excellent light loads, just try them sometime!  My favorite target load is a cast 255 gr. Keith with 10 gr. Unique behind it, less than 1 1/2 inches every time at 50 yds, great practice for oil bottles!  I also have a 7 gr. Unique load with a 250 gr. SWC Lee cast bullet, shoots great and zero recoil, relatively quiet.  If you want to see some of my targets and lots of different loads with different powders, head over to www.hunt101.com and search for ''selmer", all of my current target photos are on there, along with some heavy loads for the .454 as well.  If you want more load info, PM me or shoot me an email at encorefan@hotmail.com

Great info Selmer, Thanks.  That's the load data I wanted, just good plinking stuff.  There are plenty of good full power hunting loads listed everywhere, just couldn't find any target loads.

I've found that Unique is a GREAT powder in my .454 for absolute minimum to moderate loads, any bullet weight.  I have some 370gr. cast bullets that I couldn't get to shoot with heavy charges, I put 12 gr. of Unique behind them and Voila! 1" groups at 50 yds., around 1100 fps or so, should be a great penetrating deer load for close range hunting.
