Bison with a slug gun?

Has anyone ever taken a bison with a slug gun? Conversations with my dad brought the question up. I realize it's probably not the weapon of choice for same, but, with a lightfield hybrid, I figure it ought to be a good choice for up to 100 yards.

I just read in a magazine about a month ago about a guy that shot a buffalo with a 12 gauge using Winchester Partition Gold slugs. He shot it once, it ran about 50 yards and that was it!

Hornady has a Sabot slug round called the H2K that is supposed to replicate 45/70 ballistics from the 12ga using the same 45/70 hunting bullets as the actual round itself. So yes I guess its entirely possible.

I remember reading an article on how people who were professional buffalo hunters would sometimes go with a double barrled shotgun instead of the "buffalo rifle". They would load a patched roundball instead of shot and hunt from horseback instead of long range shooting. This gave them two shots really fast. I suppose if ranges weren't stretched a 12 gauge would still do it.
