Finally I got my Yugo SKS 59/66 out of gun store pugatory. Thanksgiving Weekend I went to the family acres to deer hunt. My cousin had a box
of mixed ammo including 3 1/2 boxes of 300 Weatherby Mag. ammo in
their boxes. (see Ammo for Yugo SKS) He wanted to keep it out of the hands of his seven-year-
old son. I took it home (no deer though) and that Monday I took the
Weatherby ammo to one of my favorite Gun Shops. I looked around a bit
and casually asked the owner about the ammo I had. He looked at me
strange and smiled he said bring the 3 1/2 boxes in and you can have
a down payment on anything in the shop!!! I wanted an SKS for a long
time and felt that time was right. I got my Yugo out last Thursday
and I've been cleaning cosmoline for three days!!! I took special
care with the gas system finding it literally packed with grease. I
finally got it into shooting condition and today I went to the range
to fire for effect. It worked perfectly!!! I used some 123 grn. Barnaul FMJ &
HP plus some 123grn. soft hollow point reloads a friend's wife made (I got to find a woman like
her). They all shoot to POA with a 4" group at 100 yards (15 total shots in a rough circle). I'm hooked.

I have had SKS's from China,Russia and Yugoslavia.In my estimation the 59/66 is the best of the lot.You have a fine shooting and well made rifle.
They shoot great out to 150 yards with iron sights and are really good deer rifles.
Take it from one who has tried everything.Don't attempt to put a scope on it unless you use the Choate which requires drilling and tapping and a little stock inletting.The others are not worth the time and effort.
You can get some 154 grain soft point hunting ammunition for this rifle made by Wolf which works great.

I bought a new SKS Yugo last spring. For the price this weapon is a real deal and a hoot to shoot. You have too watch some of the foreign ammo you buy as some of it may be corrosive and if not cleaned and oiled right away you may end up with a handful of rusty gun. Mine will shoot 4 to 6 inch groups at 100yds. I can't believe also how heavy this rifle is for it's size. I can't imagine some of people in Southeast Asia carrying one of these around all day when we complain about a hunting rifle if it weighs more than 8 pounds. Have fun, shoot straight, enjoy.

I showed a friend and sometimes boss (put your head around that one) my Yugo. He goes into his closet and pulls out a black gun case and hands it to me..... I open it... it, it is a SKS!!! A Norinco that he bought one years ago and never shot!!! He wants me to clean it for him (full of Cosmolene) and shoot it to break it in (he is too busy :b:b:b). Oh well... its a dirty job but..... Nightrain52 I know what you mean I have 2 Mosin Nagant (M44 & M38s) and I have my after range cleaning ritual down.
