Hey there guys i just made the manual extracter on my Handi in .223 and I tried to cleen it up the best i could but i can still hear it grinding in there. I was wondering how do you get all of the metal shavings out of the bore and the barrel? Thanks for the info and tips guys, I am worried about this, and am begining to wonder if I should regret doing it. Thanks. Henry.

Converting an ejector should not get any metal shavings into the bore or barrel. I simply don't know what you are talking about.

If the metal shavings are in the ejector-housing also called the underlug, then you have to take the pins out and remove the ejector and spring.
The toggle trigger with the pin sticking out on both sides you can leave it alone if it moves freely.wash out every thing and carefully put it back together.

Fred,
By saying manual extractor I think he is meaning that he did the notch like you did on your .25-06. Must have had some metal shavings drop down the barrel.
If that is the case, I would think you can run hot water down the barrel with no problem. Then just clean and oil as you normally would.

you got it Tim. I did the manual extracter. But i did get shavings everywere, due to the stone that was on the dremel. They did get down in the extracter that comes with the gun. I cleened it out best i could but like i said theres still some grinding that you can hear. so what do you guys think? should I take it all apart? I will run water thru it but what about the origonal extracter? Do i have to take it apart? I dont realy want to cause i'm afraid that the peices will shoot everywere! Thanks for the info guys I am greatful. Hank.

I'd just spray it out real good with brake cleaner or one of the spray cleaners used for firearms like Kleen Bore's Gunk-Out. I then spray the ejector housing with a dry lube like Hornady One Shot.

My light was on , but nobody home.

Just made a note on my web site to warn people of such a mess. I spent a whole hour to polish and hone all the ejector parts and sliding surfaces when I did the notch. I had the ejector apart when I did the job and of course the barrel plugged.

I am diminished by my poor instructions.

Fred, thats alright, I had the light on too but nobody home. If i woulda been thinking i woulda pluged the barrel like you said and kind "tape it off" if thats the right expresion. when i get another handi i will have to try doin it right the first time.
