Home made handgun shooting rests.

Hi All,


Several weeks ago I saw some pictures of some guys who had copied some comonly used styles of handgun rests and made their own versions out of wood.  I remember seeing a picture or two with a TC resting on one.  If anyone has any plans or pictures of homemade handgun rests using basic materials, I'd love to see them!

Hey, that's pretty cool.  I'd be interested myself.  I usually just pick a stick about 4 or 5' long and use it for a walking/shooting stick. For shooting just grab it with your fist and rest the trigger guard on your thumb.  Works pretty good.  Been thinking about making a nice walking/shooting stick.  I'd love to hear ideas..........Van

For a walking stick I use a 9.99 Walmart camera monopod with a double "v" shooting rest attached to the top.  I will see if I have a pic of it somewhere.

I cannot take any credit for either of them.   Got the monopod idea off the Web and the tree stand rest from a fine gentleman from GA.  He was nice enough to share with me.  By the way, for the tree stand rest, it is made out of conduit.  I use a 90deg bend for the part that attaches to the tree.  Then all is needed is a  drill, screws, nuts, washers, and a "T-bar" (available at your sporting goods store-I paid $7.00).  It works really well and is responsible for quite a few deer biting my .35 Rem bullet.  Works for rifles as well .

what i use when I am on the ground is something very simple and cheep but it is the best camo in the world.

I go out in the woods and find a nice small tree with a "Y" branch comming from it , then I take my camp saw and cut it off and ther you go a field shooting rest taht is the best camo you can ever get. if i shouold ever loose one i just make another in about 3 minutes.

Sounds like I need to sneak one of my wife's purses for a rest.  I usually take a short length of foam pipe insulation to pad a branch rest, or the edge of a blind.  Lightweight and cheap at Home Depot.

My favorite is still two pieces of 2x4 with a couple of widths of 1x4 nailed to them. I then use three sandbags made from shot bags. One or two for the gun. One for the heel of my hand. I get the best results that way.

I use sand sealed in plastic.  I used a vacuum pack heat sealer- the same one used for vegetables and meats, only don't vacuum pack it.  I then put the watertight sealed bag into a leather mitten.  Works great.

something else you could try, used old tumbling media (corn cob). it is lighter then sand and works just as well.
