« on: December 10, 2004, 08:46:09 PM »
Anyone here shoot a .38-55 Contender or Encore barrel? If so, who made it and what are the actual bore/groove diameters? Thanks!

I don`t have one, but according to the data I have it should fire a .376 bullet, if your talking about the .38-55 Win.

Catfish, thanks for the reply. I would like ventually to have a barrel in this caliber, but I would prefer it be up to original Marlin-Ballard specs, with a .378 or .379 groove diameter.

I have a 38-55 22" bull barrel made for me by VanHorn.  I tried a couple different bulletts, likes the 255 gr. .379 best, I get these from National Bullett.   Mostly just plink with it , 10 gr. of Unique, 2X scope ragged hole at 50yds, 1 1/2" at 100 if I do my part.  Fun round, light recoil.  I could load it up to hunt with, but have plenty of other barrels that have to draw blod first.
