My brother and his son use Federal Premium 130gr Sierra BTSP...Groups run about 1 1/4 in their Remington 700 and Ruger M-77...Leaves about a 2 inch hole, usually complete pass throughs...I would guess they have killed at least 50 deer with...Good Luck

My buddy says his Winchester simply spits the inexpensive 130gr Winchester Silver Tips like there is no tomorrow.

Yea thanks for your opinion. I've been using The remington core loks. I havent been getting a complete pass through witch leads to bad blood trailing.   But then again bullet placement is everything. Ive been aiming right behind the front shoulder (heart shot). Just they run any rarely bleed. I had to start taking neck shots when i use that ammunition. I think Im going to try out the Ballistic tips this year. I believe that will get the job done.

FWIW, I used some Winchester 140gr failsafe ammo this year. Only shot one deer, about 60 yards, right behind the shoulders, complete pass through, about 1.5 exit hole and it dropped in it's tracks, I don't think it ever heard the shot!! Internals were turned to jelly, but no meat damage at all!!
Cheers,

I have been hunting with a 270 for a while now.  I used to use 130 and 150 grain remington coreloks but switched to 130 grain winchester ballistic silver tips a couple years ago.  I've been real happy when them so far, but the coreloks weren't that bad either.

Any good 130 grain bullet should do an excellent job on deer. I would try the Nosler Ballistic tip.
shot placement is everything.

For Whitetails I like the 150 grain Hornady Spire point because I hunt them in thick brushy areas and at closer range so the lower velocity and heavier bullet works better for me.  Mule deer and antelope I use the 130 grain Hornady spire point on but the truth is I could use the 150 for everything and have no complaints.

If you are a handloader, the Nosler 130 grain Partition bullet is an excellent choice. I also believe they can be purchased in at least one manufacturer's line of premium ammunition. You won't go wrong with a Partition.

130-gr. Ballistic Tips or 140-gr. AccuBonds.  It's also hard to beat 130-gr. Core Lokts as well.
45 ACP 230-gr. Double Tap Gold Dot = 1,010 fps / 15.3" & .95"    :D

Aim for the Triangle Area between armpits & throat.
