I got my first Mauser today (M38 Turkish) and I was just wondering how to get the bolt out. I tried holding the trigger and sliding the bolt back and out, but it wouldn't come out. My gunsmith who ordered it for me said it was pretty tough to get the bolt to go in, so I was wondering if I just needed to work with it and get it out like I was trying, or if you get it out a different way? I want to go ahead and get the bolt out before I try to clean the 10 pounds of grease off of it...
Also, how do you get the cleaning rod out? It was tough trying to pull straight out, so I didn't apply any extra pressure, just to make sure there wasn't something you had to do to pull it out.

On the left rear side of the reciever, there is a rectangular bolt release. You push the front end (towards muzzle) away from the reciever while sliding the bolt out. This site gives complete instructions on dissassembly.

schnarrgj is spot on for the bolt.

For the cleaning rod, it should be screwed in. Just turn counterclockwise until it comes out. Congrats on the gun. Mausers are IMHO the most interesting of the milsurps out there. Most of our bolt action sporters today are inspired by the Mauser in one way or another.
