Glad to find your forum! Am about to buy a lever action .22 and believe it or not, I think the Henry will suit me. (I just can't see spending as much on a Marlin as I did on my AR!) Anyway, I saw various posts about the Henry, and have handled them in the local gun shop. the question is:

Will the 18" barrel on the regular Henry group as closely at 50 yards as the longer barreled Goldenboy?

I own a Henry .22 lever gun myself, fun little gun. Although I haven't tested it extensively I'll rely on my other experiences regarding barrel length and accuracy in other .22's when I say that it's probably more depedent on the ammo than the difference in barrel length between these two rifles. .22's are notoriously picky when it comes to accuracy and ammo selection. What works great in my Henry might not work so well in yours, you have to experiment. That being said I know that there is no difference, with a good shooter and good ammo between a 16" aftermarket 10/22 barrel and a 20" aftermarket barrel assuming they are set up the same. I would get which ever Henry YOU want, if you like the look of the Goldenboy go with that, if you like the price of the basic (H001) then it should work for you as well.

Well, I liked the look of the H001 Henry lever, the brasslite wasn't for me today, although I did like the look of the longer barrel, but not necessarily the octagon style. Anyway, it followed me home. Looks like I will be taking another trip to the jewelry store as well, and REAL soon. May get to fire it at a 75' indoor range next week, I have to sight in my shotgun for slugs again anyway.

It is my understanding that a 20" barrel is considered ideal for a 22LR, but that is for velocity, mostly.

22's can be very accurate, my standard Henry is pretty accurate, but I have only shot one brand. At one point it was making one large hole at 20yds. I'm satisfied with it.

well, not much of a range report as I only fired about 40 rounds today, only from the offhand, and at 50' I considered myself lucky to have all rounds land in an area the size of a baseball.
However, this particular indoor range has lousy fluorescent lighting and I have no problems sighting only one of the 5 firearms I used today, my Ruger 357 6" . Maybe I should look into changing some more of my gunsights LOL!
I will definitely fire the Henry from a rest in the near future, but I know one thing, it was definitely a lot of fun and its action performed flawlessly right out of the box, and, I just realized , I never even cleaned it first. The trigger squeeze seems to be perhaps 4 lbs., will measure it after cleaning tonight, but it is crisp and as light as I feel I want.
One more thing- the company president, Anthony Imperato emailed me back today after I emailed him on Christmas Eve. I had made some positive comments about his gun and asked a question about feeding snap caps through it. Of course he also reminded me how the new Browning and Winchester .22s are made in Japan.
