Is it possible to rechamber a rifle from 7mm-08 to 7x57 Ack Imp or is the diameter of the '08 case still larger than the Ack Imp cartridge?

The old 7x57 is the parent of them all. The .30-06 is just the same case lengthened and the bore opened. The .308 same deal but shortened rather than lengthened. All the others are then just off shoots from those two.

So the case head is common on all the various derivitives. BUT whether you'd clean up the chamber enough to do this I'm not sure. Maybe. Unless you've got a 24" or 26" barrel tho you'll really not gain enough to make it all that worth while. A new barrel would be better if more expensive.

If the rifle you are rechambering is limited to a 2.8" to 2.88" COAL it might take some doing.  Usually just magazine lengthening will do it, but few short action rifles won't handle 3.0" of COAL with some work.
