Winchester 52 DOM?
« on: December 14, 2004, 08:04:16 AM »
A friend just inherited a nice Winchester 52 from his grandfather. He was hoping to find a date of manufacture, but I don't have any collector books on Winchesters. I was hoping someone here could help us out.
Barrel is marked:
"Model 52 Winchester 22 Long R"
Manufacturer address is New Haven, Conn.
Last patent date shown is "APR 27 1920".
Serial number is "105XX".
TIA
Dave

Your friend is quite fortunate. I believe date of manufacture on his 52 is sometime in 1960.

According to the data I have, it was made somewhere around the middle part of 1927, assuming that you correctly stated a 5-digit serial number instead of a 6-digit number.
Close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades.

It is a 5 digit number. After I told my frind about the 1960 date, he said he didn't think that was possible as his father remembered shooting it as a child.
I'm sure this one is correct.
Thanks for your help!
