GOEX 2F or GOEX Cartridge for 45-70-results

Hiram:  I use to shoot alot of Goex, both 2F and Cart. in a 45-70 Shiloh, but have since switched to Swiss.  I think if you check you will find many of the top shooters and competitors prefer Swiss.  However between Goex 2F and Cart.,  I could not really tell much differance.  If you insist on sticking with Goex here is something you might try. It worked real well for me, while others have had varing results. While shooting Goex I used a 20 percent  starter charge of 3F Swiss under the Goex.  Example: For a 68 grain load- use 13.5 grs. 3F Swiss under 54.5 grains Goex.   This load worked well enough to shoot to 800 yds. and take 3rd place at Quigley year before last.  Best regards Steve Witt

Thanks for the tip.  It sounds interesting.  A duples charge without smokeless powder.  I have an experiment I'll be trying soon.  I usually unform the flashholdes with a #45 drill--about .090".   It seems the Federal mag primer is the primer of choice, even though good results are being had with other types.  Now one thing the mag primer does is send out a big, juicy flash to ignite the powder.   BUT, the flash is being resticted through the basically standard size flash hole.  I'm enlarging the flash holes on 5 cases to .100" to see what happens.  Big flash, bigger hole--get the flame through easier and larger.

Shoot 2f.  Its half buck, or so, cheaper than the Cartridge.  I've never been able to tell the difference from a ballistics point of view.
