Rifle choice question.....
« on: December 21, 2004, 03:31:49 PM »
My primary hunting area is farm country,so noise is a major factor, so I decided on a .223 for coyotes and groundhogs. I have a 22 mag., a 22-250, needed something for that 200+ yard shot with less noise that a 22-250 or a 30'06 with  a "managed recoil" 125 grain pill from Remington.

Wtih a .223 is there a big difference between the performance of a 22" vs. 24" barrell? Considering the Wetherby Vanguard or the tikka T3 Lite.

Sure would appreciate any advice on caliber, rifle selection or ways to reduce noise in the 22-250.

thanks

load your 22-250 down to .223 speed! i made up a real light load for my 22-250AI 35gr v-maxes at around  3500fps very accurate too!
it still rocks groundhogs!!!  out to around 200yds!
  good luck

Don't know if you are trying to justify a new rifle (like we need to justify THAT) but you might want to look at the 204 Ruger. Quiet, very fast (4200fps) and good terminal performance. Just a thought.
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.
