I ordered a naval cannon carriage kit from "The Canadian Cannon Company "

I should have it here around the 22nd or 23rd of December.

Bill McGregor the owner is a very neat person to talk to and is very helpful.

I ordered one of these Canadian built 1/5 scale 24 pounders from Cannon Mania. It is very high quality.

I wish I had discovered this website before my purchase, as price and delivery times appear to be a little better, but I'm certainly not sorry I added this very impressive piece to my arsenal.

Folks - Canadian Cannon Company is worth a serious look.

The Canadian Cannon Company tubes do look really nice and I had seriously considered them before I decided on one from SBR. The deciding factor was that while speaking to the CCC owner, I got the impression from him that since the barrels are designed to shoot golf balls, they have a powder chamber like a mortar.

I make up pre-packaged blank charges in tin foil and doing that doesn't work real well in a long tube with a powder chamber. The charge wouldn't bottom out correctly and worming/swabbing would be problematic.

If they were drilled full diameter all the way to the bottom, I'd probably grab one in a heartbeat.

My CCC barrel, a 1/5th scale 24" x 4" 24 pounder with golf ball diameter bore is drilled full bore all the way to the end with no sub-chamber. You might want to check with him again.

Thanks for the info. That makes all the difference. The tube from SBR is actually my Christmas present so I can't get another one just yet. However, the birthday is coming... :grin:

BTW, you can't have too many cannons and/or mortars can you?

It is possible to have too many.

This is just like the concept of 'having too much fun'; which certainly is possible. Like where one of the guys was laughing so hard he pulled a muscle in his back - bothered him for 3 weeks.

It just isn't right to have so many you never get around to using some of them (duplicates that is).

I'm with you. I always tell people "there's no such thing as having too many guns or too much ammunition." Looks like it's the same with cannons and mortars.

Blaster you need to line those guns up wheel to wheel New Years Eve a daisy chain then together.

Cut fuse long enough to reach from gun to gun. About an inch or so above the fuse hole slit the fuse so the black powder train shows. The slit the end of the fuses from the next gun so the powder train shows in the same manner.

Tape the split end of one fuse into the split section of the neighboring gun fuse.

Light the fuse for gun one and step back out of the wayÂ…Rolling thunder now has new meaning.

Let me add a little philosophy and an observation.

DD....good idea regarding the daisy chain. For the past few years, I have fired off a blank salute charge exactly at midnight. I live about five miles out of town and each New Years eve at exactly midnight, I can hear gunfire in town that sounds like a war zone. And, you can bet that those aren't all blanks that we are hearing. So far, none of my neighbors have made any complaints (to me) about noise, no, not noise, I meant a pleasant-to-the-ear cannon sound. Perhaps they have all taken a substantial amount of liquid sleeping potions/refreshments that evening. :wink:

In previous years I've launched an empty can (from one of the beer-can caliber mortars) that was filled with water, but with the whole top removed. The water gave enough mass to provide good ignition and hence noise. When the can got to the top of it's flight it tilts and empties the water, floating down gently.

I live in-town. The noise rolls across town and reflects from the mountain on the other side, and then echoes up and down the long valley.

Hmmm, new year's eve.

I just ordered a swivel gun from CCC with a blued 30" steel barrel. Bill was great to deal with and promised to make up and ship the barrel, yoke and base in 3 weeks. Can't wait!

WOW. Worth every dollar and then some.

Bill is a top notch builder and craftsman. I fully plan on buying one of his cannon barrels.

Kit was very well packed, even though UPS still put a 1" hole in the top side of the box. Thank God nothing was damaged in the box.
I have some work ahead of me but that is what this is all about.
I will take some more pics of the hardware kit in the plastic bag if you all want to see the detail work on the hardware.
