Lost IN The Mail

Moe  -  I went thru that frustration last year.  Shipped a barrel, dies and brass to a fellow in Virginia.  Bought the trace, which was worthless.  Short story is that 2 months later the package was returned to my home PO.  It appears that the fellow at the other end had a change of heart, never claimed the package, pleaded ignorance and the package sat in the PO in Virginia for two months.  The trace that I purchased showed no record after it left my PO.  Good luck.  Hope things work out for you.

any package insured for over 50 dollars has a record of it kept at the post office of origin and of delivery for 5 years. that post office will know if it went through there yet, and canprobably track it down for you witha  few phone calls
if by yes you mean no then definately

Mo, A few years ago when they were remodeling the Fairbanks PO here in Alaska, They found a letter dated in the 1950's( if memory serves me correctly) that had slipped through a crack in the floor. They were trying to deliver it 40 some years later. Hope that's not the case with your package. It is the holiday season and mail is slow. Regards, Byron

Strange delays happen. If it's of value to matter always insure it. One year when Ed mailed me his banner renewal check it still hadn't showed up 30 days later. I called and he verified it left when I thought it had. He mailed a replacement check. It came 2-3 days later. The very next day after the replacement check arrived the first one showed up with the post mark date on it he mailed it. Where it sat for over 30 days and why it eventually showed up is a total mystery. Stuff happens in the US Postal System.

Christmas season mail or shipments usually take longer. It could take until the new year and the post office won't rush through the scrutiny procedures since 911 so be patient and give it a while.

Packages lost in the mail....
« Reply #6 on: December 22, 2004, 11:10:08 AM »
Could be like my buddies new custom bow. The bowyer called him, said it was shipped, Oct 7. Waited four weeks, called bowyer. Been shipped and now can't find where it was shipped to. Nov 12 the bowyer calls. Bow was somehow shipped to Germany, stayed there for three weeks and then back to bowyer. Nov 23, my buddy got the bow. A well traveled bow and then he didn't even like it. Can't make some people happy no matter what you do.
Good luck on your package and I would say it is held up in the Christmas mail. My brother in law works at the PO and he said they are swamped.

If it was shipped Parcel Post then just wait awhile longer.  This time of year that can take up to 3 weeks.  I just got a package yuesterday which was mailed PP 14 days earlier - and I though that was fast!  If it is af any importance I always have it shipped Priority Mail.

I have has a few packages lost in the mail
1) was a decapping rod and pins from RCBS i waited for 4 weeks then called back they send me out replacement parts within a week then about 6 years latter they showed up. I had moved out of that house and my brother had moved in a few years after I moved out (and is still living there) he called me to tell me a package has showed up to his house. 6 years to get a decapping rod that isn't bad :-D
2) I lost all my smarts one day and sent out a 223 carbine barrel to be re crowned and shortened to a local gunsmith (if you can call him local) he never got it the bad thing I did not think to insure it it was staying instate and only going a few counties away. Long story short I lost that barrel with way to recoup the loss
