Question for you boys

I hunt in an area with very thick brush...............I don't have dogs so its rather difficult...................I walk through an area and can't spot a hog .but know they are their because I hear them popping their teeth. I have tried to scope out this brush piles but the brush is to thick.........only way I can get them is stand hunting right at twilight.Here is the question...............if I were in a semi-open area..............but still in the woods under some cottonwoods..........and set up a predator call.........30 feet away would the hogs come to it ( I ask that because i saw a sow chase a coyote once..very thick brush.I think he was looking for her babies.

My experience with calling hogs is very much like calling bears. When it works it works in a big way. But the chances of it working are very low. Most time when you blow a predator call with bears or pigs they run out of the area as fast as they can.

I would rather suggest you use a can of sterno to cook a small pot of apple juice or apple cider. It has been my exoerience that they will come to this scent quite well if you know they are in the bush. You will need to make a little shelf that can strap to a tree about 4 feet high. Once the fist pig is near and "talking" others will be close behind.  If you just want to kill any hog that is all you need. If you want a bigger one then bring along a section of large diameter plastic drain pipe capped at each end. It will need about 2 dozen 3/8" holes drilled into it and a cable or chain to attatch to a tree. Fill it with corn and lay it on the ground near the Boiling apple juice. When the pigs com to the smell of the juice and see the corn they will be crazy over it. Then you can sort the group out and take you pick. It's best you stay in a prepared ground bliind or tree stand. clear a shooting lane right to the Drain pipe to. Check prevailing winds and set this up ahead of time.

I have used this several times now with success each time. I'm not 100% certain it will work in all areas but it has been a real successful tool for me. Any pigs within a few hundred yards of that boiling scent of the apple cider will come to get the apples.
