One of the best areas I have to hunt coyote is a state conservation area only 5 min from my house. I can use rimfire rifles and handguns, shotgun, or a muzzleloader to hunt coyote there, no centerfire rifles or handguns.

I have a 32 cal muzzleloader that shoots a 100 gr maxiball accurately to about 50-60 yds.
I have both a 16" 22 Mag Contender carbine and a 10" 22 Mag pistol that I could use. Both are scoped.
I have a 12 ga Rem 870 and #4 buckshot loads.
I also have a 50 cal scoped inline that shoots 44 cal pistol bullets out of a sabot with coyote accuracy to 100 yds.

Which gun would be your first pick for calling?

Last 'yote I ran into there was only 40 yds away. I was rabbit hunting and carrying a 20 ga loaded with low brass #5 shot. I just watched him run off after he spotted me.

Your limitations can't be due to noise if you can use a 12 ga. shotgun. And safety wise a .22 centerfire is safer to use than a .22 rimfire. The rimfire will ricochet where the .22 centerfire won't. One of the reason why the .22 Hornet is my favorite calling caliber. A .22 WMR is way too small under most conditions. Believe it or not the Coyote is a pretty tough customer. My advice is to go with either of your muzzleloaders that you shoot best. Lawdog

I didn't make up the rules, I wish my .223 carbine was legal.

I'd go with the 22 mag carbine. More velocity than the pistol. Just keep the ranges as short as possible (like you have a choice :? ).......

What you need is a change in the Legislature. That is about the stupidest thing i have ever heard, Any fool knows a 22RF going to ricochet more than a center fire. OH WELL Thats the GUBMENT... Merry CHRISTmas Gregory

I'm with Lawdog.

Sight that in-line in at about 75 yards, and go bust you a coyote.

I would never carry any rimfire round coyote hunting. From what I`ve seen they are hard enough to kill with centerfire rifles. I would sugest getting an extention tube for the 870 and go with the #4 bucks. I have one that will carry 9 - 3 in. mags. and then just keep shooting till he`s down or you can`t see him any more. You might also want to pick up some #1 bucks for the longer shots. I used to hunt fox alot and would carry 3 loads of #2`s or BB folowed by 2 #4 bucks. With coyote I would carry 4 #4 bucks folowed by #1 bucks.
