cast bullet for muzzle loader
« on: December 05, 2004, 05:54:50 AM »
Where can I find a cast muzzleloader bullet that uses a sabot for hunting deer, I want a bullet in the 250gr range? Also does anyone know where I can get a bullet mould for this bullet?

What bore is your front stuffer? I use some plain base  .45LC RNFPs .452dia in my .50 just about any .44 or .45 cal bullet will work as long as you use the correct sabot, I've seen some fellers using .357 cast outta the .45 cal muzzle loaders. 8)

Why bother with a sabot? Just cast a conical or mini or maxi for your gun and get a good projectile with out needing the sabot. A slower heavy lead bullet  kills just as good as a fast lighter one and sometimes better. If you are looking for a fast lighter bullet for longer range you are getting away from the whole premise of muzzle loading in my estimation.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

I have some 44 SWG  that can be cast in pure lead(in WW weigh about 245gr.) and do alot of damage if I were to guess.
That Big Meplate should flatten out nice :)

But for my dads and mine we just use reg. ol pure lead bullets that I pour that have a big meplate on them. I have a .54 and .50 cal mold.

If yer going to cast yer own dont bother with sabots. Like stated already,
get a mold for a maxi , mini or real bullet. You can get them from LEE or LYMAN. Go work up a good load and go put some meat in the freezer
I use the maxi mold for my 45 which is very accurate in my gun and kills very well. It weighs at around 240 grains depending on what it is cast with.
