A buddy showed me a 1911 this weekend and I'm a little confused. Receiver is Colt with serial # is 780XXX. That marks production in 42. The pistol though is pure 1911, not A1, the slide says model of 1911. The frame behind the trigger isn't scalloped, hammer is 1911, trigger is long, sights are ala 1911 and mainspring housing is flat. Understand the trigger and hammer can be changed, but I'm perplexed by the lack of scallopping. Did Colt make two produciton runs with the same serial numbers with a prefix on the second run?
