New .243 Ultra
« on: December 20, 2004, 04:04:55 PM »
I just purchased a .243 Ultra.  This is my first purchase of the H&R/NEF kind, and so far I'm impressed.  I put a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14 mildot scope on it and on my first trip to the range it shot a 5/8" with 70 gr speer tnt's.  I hope it will do better with some load work and more time spent prepping brass.

targetguy:  Interesting report on the .243 Ultra.  I am very interested in an NEF .243.  Either the Ultra Hunter, Ultra Varmint, or the HB Handi.  I almost certainly will pick one up in January (either that or an NEF .308 it depends on which way I'm leaning at any particular moment).  Please keep us posted on your results.  5/8 sounds EXTREMELY good for a gun in this price range.

By the way, tomorrow my wife and I are flying into Butte, Montana.  We're spending Christmas with my in-laws in Deer Lodge.  My father-in-law promises to take me coyote hunting.  I also expect my mother-in-law to serve some tasty elk and antelope treats.  I love Montana.

I love Montana too - that's why I live here  :D

Sorry - not flaming, just had to chime it ....

Welcome to the Handi-holic society.  5/8 with a new .243 - count your blessings!  That's a good sign you have a shooter on your hands.  It should get better the more rounds you put through it.

We flew into Butte on Tues.

On Wednesday, went out with my father-in-law to check some of his snares.  Results: 3 coyotes.  Brother-in-law took a 200+ yard shot w/a 22-250 at a coyote.  Says he should have got it, but it didn't go down.

Went out again Friday to check different snares.  Results: 4 more coyotes.

The prices run from$200.00-250.00 depending on model. Check out NEF's website for different models and check with Wally world special order book to see prices. Check with local dealers and support them if you can.
