In looking for a used Handi that would have the high pressure frame, what is the lowest 2nd letter in the serial # that one should be looking for?  Like in N? or H?.  I know the code so I guess another way would be what is the oldest date that NEF will still fit a high pressure barrel to?

When you look at NEF's barrel program site, the barrels marked with "*" will have a foot note that tells you to call and ask.

*For this barrel, please call Customer Service at (978) 630-8220 to see if it can be fitted to your receiver.

I don't know if I answered your question with what I posted, but it seems the high pressure barrels need a receiver from 1998 or 1999 and later.

NEF told me 6 years old or less for the * barrels. I just bought a used one starts with NC2...... Was told that it was made 1/89. Too old for the * so I guess It'll be .223 etc.

Look at the 2nd letter of the serial number.
(I'm pretty sure 1995 is J, 1994 H, etc)

K=1996
L=1997
M=1998
N=1999
P=2000
R=2001
S=2002
T=2003
You're looking for N or later if you want to be able to order the barrels marked with an asterisk on the accessory barrel page.
