NRA Handgun Silhouette Rules Changes 2003 Year
« on: January 30, 2003, 07:57:07 AM »
Sad news from an old friend up in Idaho. There are no new rules from the silhouette committee to make our game better for those who shoot the NRA side of steel. Of course this is just rumor but the gunslinger from Idaho has some very good contacts from whom he gets his information.
I've had to trim some weight from my NRA Hunters Pistol guns to keep from being maxed out and having to worry about it at weigh-in time at the NRA Nationals. Slimed up my old Bullberry grip so it fits my hand better (one ounce of weight gone). Cut the rear back on my Ken Light NRA HP scope mount about two inches, turned it around and mounted it flush with the muzzle end of the barrel. Also replaced the Leupold 6.5X20 scope with a lighter Weaver Kt15 fixed 15 power. Great scope since the optics offer better resolution and brighter optics than the Leupold VarXIII. Suppose these features plus the ability to focus down to 20 feet and dry fire makes this nifty little Weaver a winner. At least this author thinks so along with champion John Bly who seems to like them a lot.
Now that I've also gone to CCI Velociter 40 grain high velocity out of my cryogenically treated and fire lapped TC 22LR Match barrel along with the couple of ounces weight reduction, I'm ready to shoot this new combo in NRA HP/SBHP. Just change out the grip to a Pach Gripper one and I'm almost up to the IHMSA Field Pistol max weight and can shoot all the matches in both organizations that I wish.
Looking forward to shooting with all of you at local, state, and regional matches this year. And who knows, I may even get with the IHMSA program for good and show up at Fort Stockton this summer.
