Anyone ever hear of this cartridge and or have any info on it?

Many years ago one of our local gunsmiths hunted with the 25 Souper, a 308 Win case necked to 25 cal. And yes, the spelling is correct, Souper.

Warren Page came up with this one, he called it the .25 Souper Pooper. Some loads are listed in PO Ackley's handbook for shooters & reloaders. availible from Sinclair Int.

I`ve had an interest in the 25 Souper for some time now and fail to see why it is not made to be a production round. Perhaps they feel it would compete with the already established 243 or 25/06. Frankly I would just as soon liked to see it hit the market as the 260 Rem. To my way of thinking it is an ideal blacktail round and everything the 250 Savage is and more. POW

Well I was in a local gun shop and the owner was talking about this new caliber he had for his Encore.  It was the 25-08 and he made it sound like it was his idea!     :x

Next time I see him I'll have to ask him how the "Souper" is working out for him.

Does sound like a nice cartridge though.

Thanks

After some experience with the 220 PPC and 6mm PPC around 20 years ago I became convinced that the answer for an accurate light hunting rifle was a cartridge with the capacity of a 30-06 but in a short, fat format like the PPC case.
My new cartridge would be in 25 or 26 caliber and have the capacity of a 25-06 or 6.5-06 plus the short, fat burn characteristics of a PPC. However, at that time it would have required a brand new case type, rifle action-bolt type, ect. Instead I built a 6.5-284 and got the same basic thing.
Nowdays the WSM's and WSSM's are all the rage

HAY THAT WAS MY IDEA!!!!

No justice huh.

Life without a 25-08[25 Souper] is like abeing a man in a desert without water! I had mine swiped by a close friend and built another on a Mod 7 with a McGowan XX barrel which shoots a whole lot better than I can. I have built no less than 5 of these this past year and one more in the works now. All super accurate rifles and so easy to work up loads for. Very low recoil too. It does anything and everything my 25-06 does so I just retired it. I may very well pull the 25-06 barrel and make a 6.5/06 as what`s the use of having a good 25-06 and not using it?
