.223 REM & COYOTE...V Max Or Soft Point

I handload my 223s, and my fur load is a 55g Sierra SP at 2750 fps. That load nearly always exits, but leaves only a small exit hole.

If you're stuck with factory loads, then I'd stay away from the SPs. The 55g SPs at factory velocities can make a huge exit hole.  A 40g V-Max, or Balistic-tip load would likely not exit if you can hit bone(shoulders) going in.

I've loaded 55 grain soft points and 55 grain v max's both to around 3000 fps.  Both tore holes in hides.  It actually seems like the V Max's tear a larger hole going in where they impact the hide.  The soft points tear a hole in both sides, but not a real big one.  I'm working on a 40 grain load now with v max's to try to keep the bullet inside the animal without tearing a large entrance hole.

All I can really say is to buy yourself a sewing kit and learn how to use it.  If you're hunting coyotes, and keeping the furs to sale, you're going to have to do some sewing
You haven't hunted......Until you've hunted the hunters

.223 for coyote

brown-trout I use a Savage .223 w/accu trigger. I reload because I also fur hunt. I kill 25 to 30 yotes a year and I use Speer's 50 grain TNT. To date I have only had one round exit. I was not surprised as it was only a 38 yd. shot broadside, however the exit was about the size of silver dollar. I think any round will exit under the right conditions but I have found that the Speer TNT does so less than any other round I have used. I load it to about 3100. Hope this helps and good luck with the yotes.

I load/shoot a .223. My current coyote load is a 55gr Hornaday SP on top of Benchmark powder.  I get about 3100 out of the barrel.  I shot 3 coyotes so far this year with this round. All exited with a nickle size hole.
