I just picked up the 2005 Ruger catalog and can't find the 77/44 rifle listed. Has this been discontinued and if so, how long has it been out of production?

It's still on their website, and is in my 2004 paper catalog. I'd be surprised if it was dropped for 2005.

I asked this question on the Ruger Forum too and was told that it is definitely gone for 2005.

I always liked the idea of a bolt action 44 but that doggone Ruger magazine just won't allow the use of bullets with a long nose profile.

A call to Ruger just confirmed that it had indeed been discontinued for 2005. Kinda hate I got rid of mine

I'm glad I got mine before they were discontinued! It may not be the most accurate (2 1/2 - 3 inches at 100 yards) rifle in my cabinet, but I really like the way it handles!

Did they give any reason WHY they were discontinuing the 77/44?

Well;

I won't shed a tear for it. Had one back in 2000 and the best it would do is 3 to 4 inches at 100yds. No matter what load you tried through it. I have a H&R 44mag and it will shooot 1 to 1-1/2" groups all day long. When you buy a bolt gun, you expect good accuracy from it. Mine did not.

I'm kind of surprised to hear that the Ruger 44mag bolt rifle shoots such large groups. Not that the 44mag is a very accurate cartridge, but my Ruger 44mag autoloader (Deerfield) will shoot <3" groups all day long and its a pleasure to carry and shoot. You would expect their bolt rifle to shoot much better. :? :?

I don't know if I just got a really good one, but mine likes everything I stuff into it. I get around 2" groups with 240 XTP, 240 Winchester Hollow Soft Pionts, and 250 Partition Golds. I guess I will hold on to this one.

I'm on the fence as to getting another one of these. Had one when they first came out, but sold it unfired. It sure seemed nice as to feel, balance and quick handling, etc. Despite what I've heard, I'd be shocked if I couldn't get 2" groups at 100 yards with some form of 240 gr HP factory loads.
