Under $150, Accurate Battle Rifle

I am getting the itchy to buy another Mil Surp military battle rifle.  

I have an MN1891/30 that I have worked up loads that provide fair accuracy (about 3 inch at 100 yards).  I was at a pawn shot on Saturday and they had a Finnish MN for about $150.

I have seen where Big 5 has been selling both Yugo & Turk Mausers for under or around $150.  A local GI-Joes has Enfield Mark 4's on sale for $159.

At the range I shoot at there is a guy with a Swedish Mauser that is very accurate.  Then the guys also talk about old Springfields, but they are far more expensive.

So the question is what are some of the most accurate military rifles that one can purchase or keep an eye out for that might be aquired for around $150 or less?

K-31 Swiss

Since you already handload the K-31 Swiss would be a great choice.The rifle is very accurate and the trigger is a magnificient piece of machinery.
These have never had corrosive ammunition shot in them as the Swiss used non-corrosive.About $100 will get you a decent example.

I have a Swiss K-31 that I shot a 5 shot 2" group with. This is remarkable with my old bi-focal wearing eyes. I then mounted a no drill and tap scope mount and with a $40 dollar 2X7 scope, I shot 3 shot groups from .5" to .75".

Most of the current milsurps (if in nice condition) will shoot
more accurately than most of us can hold them. The key is to find
the Nice condition ones. The Swedes and the Swiss both create very accurate rifles but they are both getting hard to find in nice shape.
The ones I have seen listed have been,in my opinion, a grade below
what they were advertised as. I have seen none in the last year that
I would call very good condition!  Some of the Nagants I have been
seeing have been in almost un-issued condition though!!!
In all cases, Be cautious of the "ARSENAL REFINISHED" rifles,
Most of these are piece togethers that appear to have been restamped
& Numbered. The companies are selling them as "NEVER ISSUED' They seem to be in really good condition, but watch what you pay for them. I really wish I could name names of some of these
companies who are misleading buyers, but for legal reasons it would
be best that I didn't. misleading may be a bit too harsh now that I think
of it, because most of the rifles are really nice. BUT, they are not the rare
collectors Items that most buyers think they are.

Go with the K-31 Schmitt-Rubin straight pull - I have purchased two of them and have never looked back.  The GP-11 ammo is match grade and extremely accurate.  It is like shooting a fine swiss watch with the kick of a .30-06....!!

And I bought both for about $100 each.

A M39 from Wholesale Guns & Ammo.  THese are rifles that started as russian rifles then reworked by the Finnish.  These have excellent reputations for accuracy.  Ammo is 7.62x54r.

-  Finn M39
-  Yugo 24/47 Mauser
-  Czech 98/22 Mauser
-  Yugo M48 Mauser

Ski is right on the money... I have several 91/30 s but the most accurate milsurp in that price range I own is the M39 Finnish rifle.   I have five of 'em and the $99 gunsmith specials shoot almost as good as the New Unissued one .. I have an unissued VKT, and two $99 VKTs  , a Sako, and a SKY.  I would grab any one of them and head for the woods...Les

I had a FINNISH M39 once that shot under one inch 5 shot groupings at 100 yards with iron sights.These were shot with czech silver tip bullets.

Check out the K-31.  SGN ran an article on them a month ago, and they sell for about $125 or less.  The thing I like most about mine is that it is already broken in AND well taken care of.  No rust, but the stock has lots of little dings (character).
  On the bad side, 480 rounds of ammo will set you back more than you pay for the rifle, but the metal-reinforced cardboard speed loaders work better than stripper clips for everything else I've tried.
  My brother shot mine two days ago and now he wants one and can't stop talking about it.
  I also have one of the $65 Mosin-Nagant M44s, and although it is a nice little gun for the money, it is nowhere as smooth as the K-31.
  Although my M48 Mauser was out of that price range, before buying it I did some research and some guy did a comparison between the different Mausers available.  He included the Turkish one dispite its relatively low price after initially ruling it out, thinking it was at too great a disadvantage compared to the more expensive ones.  It held its own.  I apologize, I can't find the link.

I own most models of Mosins, Enfields, plus a few South Amercian 7x57 mausers. The M39 is a very nice rifle. Apples and oranges compared to the 91/30. But still has Mosin action. Enfield No. 4's are nice but thats just it you would have to slightly raise your spending limit for a decent one. Same goes with all the Enfields 250+- will get you a nice shooter in reasonable condition. My favorite is my Enfield No. 1 MKIII then the Mausers.

The mosins are a great buy for the money and the Polish 44's are a great buy even when bought in much used condition. I still am looking for a deal on a Finn and will find one sooner or later. :) To me the Mosins are the best bang for the buck out there and good shooting cheap WOlf ammo is out there that is noncorrosive and in soft point for hunting. I have thought about the swiss rifles but the ammo situation turns me off. Expecially for reloadable cases. I am reloading for the 762x54 and the 8mm already and going to for the 6.5 swede and the 7x57. I guess I cannot see adding a other  like the swiss with the ammo situation as it is. That is the one reason I refrained from buying any of the like new french guns.

jh45gun, grafs has the swiss brass and its not expensive. 308 bullets and the dies are easy to come by. There really isn't an ammo problem with the Swiss. http://www.grafs.com/

No I suppose there is not.  How have the swiss rifles been as far as headspacing goes? They all in good shape that way? Jim

You can add my vote for a K-31 Schmidt Rubin.  I have two and they are deadly accurate.  Mine are ugly, but the beautiful trigger and fantastic accuracy with make you forget the looks.

I've got a 308 enfield hand loads 1.5 in, 48a mauser surplus 2in, K31 with  GP-11 1in, m38 haven't shot it need rear sight but may sporterize it for the boy.
Gave under 125 for the 1st 3 & $235 for the M38 sweed (may be high but it is an 1900 orbandorf ?spl )
