i had this in an earlier post i was wondering about  making the 300
wsm a straight wall case 475 is from a 45/70 etc.
as anyone looked at doing that yet how large a bullet will one use ?

Is it going to headspace on the case mouth?  The 300 WSM is .545" at the base, but I think you're probably going to need a shoulder with that case.  Headspacing on the case mouth you could probably get a .500" bullet on a straight-walled 300 WSM.  The 50 Action Express is .547" at the base, .540" at the case mouth and uses a .500" bullet.

The .500 S&W is one sweet round. 350 grn. bullets at 1,875 and 275 grn. bullets at 2,100 fps. from a 10 in barrel. AND you don`t have to form cases.
