I was surprised on the recoil I was only shooting a 100 grains of pyrodex pellets, with a 250 grain sabot, I shot it only 8 times but I could feel it in my shoulder ,I did shoot a 100 bird trap shoot before I sighted in so maybe that had something to do with it but that I didnt feel, I was impresed by how well the gunshot ,And grouped, The recoil seemed alot more then my 54caliber thompsoncenter hawkins when I shoot a lead ball with a 110grains of goex. what is your longest shot with your inline guys they say you can shoot out to 150to 200yds and be effective can some of you fill me in on your expereinces,Ihave shot some whitetail deer at quite a bit farther range then that but it was with a sako 270. thanks red

You might consider a simms limbsaver recoil pad. I suspect the rifle is lighter than the older .54cal. My Omega with a synthetic stock was a kicker before I put the pad on. Now it is a pussycat. Distance shooting with any muzzleloader depends on how long you train for it. Shots over 100 yards should only be tried when you really know the rifle, load and can make steady shots under real hunting nerve pressure. I shoot 100 yards with a lot of confidence. I practice at 100 yards.

scott johnson, you will feel the difference between Goex black powder and pyrodex. Black powder gives more of a push and pyrodex and triple7 are more of a sharp recoil. As Keith Lewis has said try a simms limbsaver recoil pad.

Another thing to remember is recoil will be affected by bullet weight. I believe a roundball is well under 200 grains, correct me if I remember wrong. That will cause less recoil too.
An inline with one of the more aerodynamic projectile is indeed a 150-200 yard gun...but bullet drop becomes a huge issue (like shooting your Sako at 400-500 yds). If I think it's over about 100 I use a laser rangefinder. Shooting 200 yds requires 5-10X the practice as shooting 100 yds.

The other posts are correct, but shooting the 100 rounds of trap before did not help matters in my opinion. I know when I shoot 100 rounds or more my shoulder tends to get a little tender. Also I sometimes start to develope a flinch. I'm no expert at wing shooting though.
You didn't mention accuracy but I think you would have been better off not to have shot that many rounds before hand. Just my thoughts, maybe others can do it but I wouldn't try to shoot for presicion after shooting a shot gun that many times.

I used to think the Pachmayer Decelerator pads were good until I got the Simms Limbsaver. It is easily three times better in my opinion and I am somewhat recoil sensitive. I hunt with a 7X57 instead of my 30-06 due to the recoil comparison. I have killed one elk with the 7X57 and he never argued that the rifle was "not powerful enough". I have a simms on order for the 30-06 so maybe I will be able to shoot it finally. Great pad!!!!

To reinforce what was said above, you can make that 200 yard shot with an inline but you have got to know the distance and you have got to know your bullet drop tables.
Yes the .50 round ball is 174 grains so right away you know the recoil is way up using the 250 grain slug.
