full size glock 45acp single stack?
« on: November 30, 2004, 11:10:49 PM »
I love glocks and have owned five of them.  I have been reading about the glock 45 gap and is it just a way for glock to make money off another cartridge?  The differences between the acp and gap don't seem to be that big?  I would love a full size 45acp glock with single stack mag that would be the same width grip as my 31.  Do you think glock will ever make one?  What are the chances that conversion kits to change the 45gap glock to 45acp will appear?  I'm concerned about spending money on a caliber that seems to be equal to the 45acp which has a great proven track record.  Can someone fill me in on why the gap is so much better?

I don't think its "so much better". From what I have read the 45 GAP has simular ballistics to the 45 ACP in a little smaller gun. A lot of people complained that the G20 (10mm), G21 (45 ACP), G29 (10mm) and G30 (45ACP) were to big (wide, thick). But people still wanted to use Glock's and the 45 ACP (even the 10mm) for obvious reasons! The 45 ACP is a great cartridge (as is the 10mm).

I have two Glock's a G22 and a G27 both 40 S&W. I want to get a 9mm either a G17L with a 6 inch barrel or a G34 with a 5.3 inch barrel for plinking. I also want to get a G20 in 10mm. I wouldn't mind a G21 in 45 ACP. The full size Glock's fit me pretty good. I know my wife wouldn't be able to shoot them. There just to big!

I think if the law enforcement community starts to use the 45 GAP then it will be a success. If not, I'm not sure. The law enforcement community is what made the 40 S&W as popular as it is today!

I don't really see Police Departments buying new guns again.  If the 45 gap will fit a .40 holster than some departments might change but I have not heard of shootings where .40's didn't do the job.  We carry .357 glocks and I think it's the best round made for police work.  The recoil is little and from testing and articles I've read they get great penetration on auto glass, but that's a whole other post.  It sounds like Glock is trying to make some money on thier own cartridge.  I feel if Glock would have come out with a full size 45 acp single stack they would have sold a ton more than with the "new" 45 glock.  I guess I'll be crossing my fingers waiting for the 45acp version.

:cb2: I agree. If they had made it in .45 ACP they probably couldn't make enough of 'em. My wife and I both would have one. Until they do—and I'm not holding my breath waiting for Glock to admit they made a mistake—I'll stick with the G21.

The only reason the G21 has such a big grip is because it was designed for the 10mm round (G20) that was really catching on with European sport shooters. They simply adapted it for the American market my making the G21 in .45 ACP. It's still my wife's favorite gun to shoot.

I shoot both the GAP and the ACP and I like the GAP idea a lot. The model 38 and 39 will be out next year to round out the family with several other makers coming out with pistols in the near future. Velocity with all bullet weights is equal to or better than the ACP with only a small jump in pressure. The case is designed from the beginning to be fired in a not fully supported chamber without the bulging of the 40SW , uses a small pistol primer to add strength to the case and control powder ignition. People have asked about more power ,but I can't see most shooters doing well with the resulting recoil and muzzle blast of the higher pressure round. If Ruger would offer the GAP in the P345 I would have bought it over the ACP that I can't wait to shoot.

Rather go with the .40 S&W than the .45 GAP myself. Why give up 15+1 rds. of .40 to just 10+1 rds. of .45. Although I prefer the G23 myself. Of course the afterban mag capacity may be higher than 10 rds. but I still don't see any gain.

Gaston got his name on a round.

The GAP provides similar performance to the low pressure .45 ACP in a smaller case (shorter).  This will help people with small hands to shoot the big bore .45.  As stated above, unless LE of some agency picks this up, its future is very questionable.

I think it is a solution in search of a problem.  I will stick with the G21 and have compatability with the 1911 stable and the HKUSP stable.

Ahhh...enough people complained/requested a smaller .45 and Glock did it the easiest way...use the most produced frame and just make it work...
