Anyone have one of the "new" Mod. 52 Winchesters?
« on: January 09, 2005, 08:03:57 AM »
I am looking for comments from owners of the newly made Mod. 52's as far as what sort of accuracy you are getting from yours.

I've had one for a few years now.  I glassed the action, relieved the barrel channel, and have played around with the barrel tension screw, but so far have yet to get the sort of groups that I'm looking for.

Also, I've tried every sort of ammo out there.  Best results so far have been with CCI Green Tag, giving me around 1-1 1/4" at 50 yds. with a Leupold 3x9 Compact scope.  This is OK, but I was hoping for better.

Your comments would be appreciated! :-)

I have one and really like it. I mounted a Burris 4X12 RF / AO scope and have used a variety of ammo. With Wolf Match Target, I am consistently getting groups in the .400-.500" range off the 50 yard bench. I have not done anything to the rifle but mount the scope and shoot it. Maybe I just got lucky. I really believe the rifle will  shoot better than what I have experienced so far. I am going to get serious about shooting it this spring. Have you tried several brands of target ammo? The Wolf stuff shoots great in my rifles. These 52 repos are really nice guns. I'm glad to have one. Good luck with yours. The scope may be part of the problem. Several years ago, I had a Browning A-Bolt .22 that yielded only medocre accuracy with any ammo I tried. I tweeked this and that with no real change. A friend recommened changing the scope. Wow, what a diference! That rifle is a tack driver and is still in my gun cabinet.

Thanks for the input TNrifleman!  I haven't tried the Wolf stuff as yet, but with your suggestion, I will.  I have never had any problems with Leupold scopes, and sure hope that it's not the source of my mediocre accuracy, but anything is possible!

Glad to hear that your 52 is capable of that sort of group.  Gives me something to strive for!

Thanks again!   George

I have one  of the new Win 52's and it shoot well.  Typically under 1/2 at 50 yards.  Still working on improving the group by adjusting the trigger and the ammo.  Have you removed the "lawyer pin" which restricts adjustment of the trigger?  If you have not checked it out already, there are quite a few shooters of these rifle on rimfirecentral.com.
